HUNTSVILLE — A walk through the park could help a shelter dog find a home.
Huntsville Animal Services and Healthy Huntsville are launching “Paws in the Park,” a series pairing outdoor exercise with opportunities to meet adoptable dogs.
The free events run from 8–11 a.m. November 7 at Hays Nature Preserve and November 14 at Indian Creek Greenway.
Participants may bring their own dogs or walk a shelter dog along a marked, one-mile round-trip route. All dogs must be leashed, and groups must include an adult age 19 or older. Walkers completing the route will receive a commemorative gift.
“These walks are about connection – with nature, our parks, our pets, and our community,” Animal Services Director John Fischer said in the city’s October 26 release.
Organizers say the outings give shelter dogs a break while letting families meet potential pets in a calmer setting. Families can also introduce their current dogs to a possible companion before deciding whether to adopt.
