HUNTSVILLE — Residents can learn about projects shaping their neighborhoods and the city’s future during a Community Planning Month forum Oct. 28 at South Huntsville Public Library.

District 3 Council Member Jennie Robinson will host the public engagement forum at 6 p.m. in the library’s classroom, 7901-L Bailey Cove Road SE. Huntsville Planning Department representatives will discuss projects planned for District 3 and throughout the city, according to the City’s event calendar.

The gathering concludes a series of public meetings designed to connect residents with planners and council members, explain the planning process, and encourage discussion about current and future development.

Earlier meetings took place at Goldsmith-Schiffman Elementary in Owens Cross Roads and the downtown Huntsville-Madison County Public Library. The month’s outreach schedule also included a town hall at Hope Church in Madison.

Mayor Tommy Battle recognized the Planning Department with a Community Planning Month proclamation, praising employees’ ability to anticipate Huntsville’s changing needs.

“We have a great team in our Planning Department who are the experts and have the amazing ability to see around the corner and anticipate what’s coming next,” Battle said in the City’s announcement.

“We are thrilled to celebrate our Planning Department and take a moment to appreciate their vision that makes Huntsville a special place to live today, tomorrow and years into the future.”

Planning displays are also part of the outreach at North Huntsville Public Library, 3011 Sparkman Drive NW, and South Huntsville Public Library.

For residents interested in what comes next for Huntsville, the forum offers a chance to hear directly from planning staff and learn how individual projects fit into the city’s broader development plans.
