Kenasia Guilford, 33, a Toledo firefighter, faces abduction, theft, motor vehicle theft, and burglary charges stemming from an alleged incident involving her boyfriend. The charges are allegations, and she is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

TOLEDO, Ohio — A Toledo firefighter faces four criminal charges after authorities accused her of refusing to release her boyfriend from handcuffs, taking his phone and vehicle, and entering his home without permission.

Kenasia Guilford, 33, faces charges of abduction, theft, motor vehicle theft and burglary, according to court records reported by WTVG. The alleged victim is a captain with the same fire department.

Police affidavits allege the man initially consented to being handcuffed to a staircase at a West Toledo home, but Guilford later refused to unlock the restraints. He eventually escaped while still handcuffed.

In a subsequently released 911 call, the captain’s friend described an early-morning request for help. The caller said the man reported having to “gnaw” and struggle to free himself from a railing. The friend’s account to dispatchers did not establish precisely how the man escaped. Police later cut off the handcuffs, WTVG reported.

Investigators also allege Guilford took the man’s phone, car keys and house keys, drove away in his vehicle and broke into his home. Officers found her hiding in an upstairs bedroom, according to the station’s reporting of police affidavits.

Defense attorney Richard Mitchell characterized the allegations as arising from a relationship dispute involving information that distressed his client. He argued that Guilford had no prior criminal record and posed no threat to the community.

At her Sept. 28 court appearance, a judge set bail at $10,000, ordered her to have no contact with the alleged victim and required GPS ankle monitoring. Guilford is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
