HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Huntsville history will be told along the paths of Maple Hill Cemetery on Sunday, October 18, when the annual Cemetery Stroll returns from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.
More than 75 costumed characters are expected to portray people connected to the city’s past. As visitors walk through the cemetery, interpreters will share their stories in a setting where many of those lives are remembered. The event also features music, special exhibits, an antique automobile display, and scavenger hunts for children.
The stroll offers a different way to learn local history. Instead of reading a name and date on a marker, visitors can stop, listen, and consider the lives behind them. For families, the walk can introduce younger residents to people and places that shaped Huntsville across generations.
The event takes place at Maple Hill Cemetery, 203 Maple Hill Drive, near California Street and McClung Avenue. Admission is free, and donations are appreciated.
Organizers describe the stroll as one of the country’s largest living-history cemetery walks. Visitors who want to hear several stories should allow time to move through the grounds at a comfortable pace.
