HUNTSVILLE — Alabama A&M University Associate Professor Dr. Pooja Preetha has received the 2026 American Society of Civil Engineers Outstanding Faculty Advisor Award, becoming one of only two recipients selected nationwide.
The honor recognizes five years of leadership and service to AAMU’s ASCE Student Chapter. Membership grew from 34 students to 57, with 30 participating throughout the year.
Preetha has connected students with technical presentations, industry networking, field visits, service, leadership programs and competitions. During the past year, the chapter earned more than five honors, including first place and Best Speaker in the Construction Institute competition.
“This award represents the power of consistency and patience,” Preetha said, crediting students, faculty advisors, department leaders and industry partners for the chapter’s progress.
Preetha advises alongside Dr. Mohamed Ashour, professor and Civil Engineering Program coordinator. Her goal is helping students grow academically, professionally and personally while keeping the chapter strong.
Students are preparing for ASCE competitions, conferences, seminars and projects. Preetha said watching them become confident engineers, leaders, interns and professionals remains the most rewarding part of her service.
