WASHINGTON, D.C. — Alabama A&M University forestry students recently earned national recognition while representing the University with the U.S. Forest Service at the Great American State Fair.
Seniors Alayna Battle of Huntsville, David Green of Dallas and Elijah McCray of Tuskegee, along with May graduate Christopher Burns of Memphis, assisted with public demonstrations, equipment setup and visitor engagement.
Working alongside AAMU Forester Jeremy Whigham and Forest Service officials, the students were praised for their professionalism, adaptability and service, including helping visitors affected by extreme summer heat.
The group also participated in forestry demonstrations featuring crosscut saws and chainsaws.
Following the event, students toured U.S. Forest Service headquarters and several Smithsonian museums, including the National Museum of African American History and Culture.
