Since the 2022 passing of the beloved, trailblazing, Eric “Guru” Moore, founder of
the “Onnidan Group” and webmaster at Onnidan. com, the first website to provide internet coverage for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) athletics and home of the Black college SportS page from 1995 until his passing, there has been no real online home for the BCSP.
Until now.
But over the past two weeks, we have debuted the Black College Sports Page Information Network,online at bcspin.net.
We have dubbed it “bcspin (bc-spin), the only spin you can trust – since 1994.”
As we begin our 33rd year, that caption attempts to capture the 32 years the BCSP has put in trying to authentically tell the remarkable story of black college athletics without fear but with much favor to our subjects.
We have told their story primarily thru the 90 African-American newspapers around the country that have carried (subscribed to) the BCSP over those years. But while Eric was alive, we also had an online presence at onnidan.com as he diligently and painstakingly made sure we were there as the internet exploded!
What the internet has done is more than an explosion.
Over the last 32 years, it has become a digital utility, a global marketplace, and an immersive environment. It shifted from simple text pages into a massive, always-on system that runs daily life, work,and communication across the entire world.
It requires that the unique perspective of the BCSP be there.
Thus, bcspin.net.
Patience Required
Please be patient with us as we navigate the modern digital and social media marketing requiring mastering artificial intelligence, short-form video platforms, and community-driven social media engagement. These core pillars will reshape how the BCSP brand connects with target audiences in real time.
But we are by no means abandoning our foundational bread and butter – black newspapers. We will continue to provide week-to-week scores, news,
schedules, feature stories, standings and analysis.
In addition to the newspapers that subscribe to the BCSP, we’ve been sending another nearly 1,000 black college sports fans our other publications by email –
– the BCSP Xtra!! that chronicles week-to-week scores and game profiles of Big Winners, Big Losers, a Top Performers list of passers, rushers, receivers,
tacklers, sackers and intercepters, Attendance Matters and Xtra Notes, standings and our players of the week,
– the BCSP NFL ProFile, highlighting the weekly top performers and performances of black college alums in NFL games, and
– the STAT CORNER, a statistical monthly breakdown of the top statistical leaders in black college football and basketball.
All these publications will now be expanded included and distributed online thru bcspin.net. Signup now.
We also intend bcspin.net to not only be the home of the BCSP going forward, but to be the place where 32 years of black college sports history chronicled by the BCSP is stored online.
Eric and I both have to thank another internet pioneer, Elton Ghee of Roanoke, Virginia, who approached us both in 1995 and told us, without question, that what we were producing had to be online.

A new year, a new logo,better coverage
As we begin this new 33rd year of the BCSP, also note a slight change in our logo.
That and the new website are nods to my three sons, Isa, Hud and Akeel, whom I refer to as the ‘Three Wise Men’ who’ve been encouraging me to do this for some time.
As for the play on the football field, I’m looking for perhaps the most competitive across-the-board season in some time.
New coaches are in place at Albany State (David Bowser), Bowie State (Dawson Odums), Clark Atlanta (Terry Sims). Florida A&M (Quinn Gray), Hampton (Van Malone), Howard(Ted White), Morehouse (Brad Sherrod),Savannah State (Thomas Howard), Southern (Marshall Faulk) and Winston-Salem State (Tory Woodbury).
The predictions are in and they are about as relevant as the paper or webspace they occupy. Everyone is geared up, the new and old coaches, the new players and those who stuck around. Fall camps have started for the players and the bands.
The only prediction is that the BCSP will be there, God willing, as all the teams try to make their mark on this new season. Join us.
