Whoopi Goldberg Backs Knicks’ White House Visit: “I Want Those Black Men to Stand in Our House”

After winning the NBA championship, the New York Knicks are drawing attention for accepting an invitation to visit the White House from President Donald Trump. The decision became a topic of discussion on ABC’s The View, where co-host Whoopi Goldberg strongly supported the team’s attendance.

Although Goldberg has often criticized Trump, she argued that the visit should be viewed as an opportunity to celebrate achievement rather than politics.

“I want all those Black men to stand in our house,” Goldberg said during the discussion, emphasizing that the White House belongs to all Americans. She said the players’ presence would symbolize perseverance, excellence, and the accomplishments of Black athletes on one of the nation’s most visible stages.

According to reports, Knicks owner James Dolan confirmed the team accepted the invitation following its championship run. The visit would make the Knicks one of the first NBA championship teams in recent years to attend a White House event hosted during Trump’s current term.

Several players have not publicly stated whether they plan to attend. Center Trey Jemison III said the team would likely make a collective decision, while captain Jalen Brunson had not publicly commented.

Goldberg’s remarks received loud applause from the studio audience, but other panelists expressed mixed feelings. Co-hosts discussed the challenges athletes face when sports, politics, and public expectations intersect.

The debate reflects a broader national conversation about the role of professional athletes in political and cultural discussions beyond the playing field.
