Get ready, North Alabama — elite college softball is headed to the Rocket City region. The Southeastern Conference announced a four-year agreement to host its postseason softball tournament at Madison’s Toyota Field, home of the Rocket City Trash Pandas, starting with the 2027 event set for May 11–15. The Madison City Council approved the deal and a $12.5 million facility upgrade on April 17, 2026.

The tournament is expected to pour millions of dollars into area hotels, restaurants, and retailers while putting Madison and Huntsville on a national stage. Local business owners are already celebrating the announcement, and tourism officials project a significant boost in visitors during tournament week each spring.

“The City of Madison is excited to host the SEC Softball Tournament beginning in 2027,” said Madison Mayor Ranae Bartlett. “We look forward to showcasing Madison’s hospitality, hotels, and restaurants as passionate sports fans celebrate these outstanding student-athletes and the tradition of excellence that defines the SEC.”

Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle also welcomed the announcement. “No conference in the country plays softball at such an elite level as the SEC, and we are proud to welcome the SEC Tournament to the Huntsville area,” he said.

For residents, the tournament is more than sports — it is economic development, youth inspiration, and community pride all wrapped into one. Black-owned restaurants, caterers, event vendors, photographers, and hospitality workers across Madison County stand to benefit directly from the annual surge of fans, families, and media.
