The City of Madison officially launched its modernized transit scheduling and reservation platform today, April 20, 2026 — a milestone move that brings transportation scheduling, dispatching, and reservations fully in-house for the MARS (Madison Assisted Ride Service) program.
By ending reliance on third-party services, the city says it is delivering a substantially improved experience for MARS riders, caregivers, and families. The new system includes a Trip Portal Mobile App for scheduling and managing trips from a smartphone, an Online Client Portal for booking and tracking rides from any computer or tablet, and reloadable bus passes available in both electronic and physical formats.
Communications are also getting an upgrade. Riders will now receive automatic text, email, and voice reminders, along with real-time “on-the-way” arrival notifications. The improvements are expected to cut missed rides, reduce wait times, and give older adults and residents with disabilities far greater independence.
MARS serves some of Madison’s most vulnerable residents — seniors, people with disabilities, and families who rely on public transit for medical appointments, jobs, and everyday errands. Accessible, reliable transportation is an economic and health equity issue, and the city’s decision to invest in its own platform signals a long-term commitment to those riders.
