SPEAKIN’ OUT NEWS

Alabama Secretary of State Wes Allen issued a reminder Monday that residents must register to vote by May 4, 2026, in order to participate in the upcoming May 19 primary election.
“The right of eligible United States citizens to vote in fair and secure elections is one of the hallmarks of our constitutional republic,” Allen said. “I encourage all eligible Alabamians to register to vote or verify their voter registration status on AlabamaVotes.gov ahead of the May 19 primary election.”
Residents have multiple options for registering to vote. They can complete the process online through the Secretary of State’s website, mail a completed voter registration form, or submit one in person to their local Board of Registrars. Officials encourage residents not to wait until the last minute to ensure their information is accurate and up to date.
To be eligible to vote in Alabama, individuals must be United States citizens, reside in the state, and be at least 18 years old on or before Election Day. Additionally, voters must not be disqualified due to certain felony convictions or declared mentally incompetent by a court.
On Election Day, polls will be open statewide from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Voters are required to present a valid form of photo identification when casting a ballot in person or voting absentee.
Cumulative election results will be made available on the Secretary of State’s website, AlabamaVotes.gov, following the close of polls.
Residents with questions about voter registration or the election process can contact the Elections Division of the Secretary of State’s office at 334-242-7210 or reach out to their local county Board of Registrars.
