Newly released court documents reveal that a missing Alabama man found dead last week was shot during a robbery, leading to capital murder and robbery charges against two suspects.
Jesse Austin Heald, 34, is charged with capital murder and robbery in the killing of Patrick Slade Boothe, 51. The capital charge applies because Boothe was inside a vehicle when he was fatally shot, according to court records made public Monday.
Tiffani Renee Nichol, 35, is charged with felony murder and robbery in Boothe’s death.
Boothe was last seen Jan. 23, leaving the Parker Place S.W. area in Jacksonville, and his family reported no contact afterward. He was last known to be driving a white 2007 Lexus GX with gold-colored wheels and an Alabama license plate 11C1D49.
Boothe was found dead on Wednesday, Feb. 4, though authorities have not released details about where or how he was found. Charging documents state the killing occurred Jan. 24.
Both suspects were booked into the Talladega County Jail on Feb. 6. Nichol’s bond is set at $500,000, while Heald remains held without bond.
Jacksonville Police Chief Marcus Wood asked for prayers and privacy for Boothe’s family and said investigators have been in contact with them.
The investigation involved numerous local, state, and federal agencies, including the FBI and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency. The case remains active as it proceeds through the courts.
