Alabama State University is once again facing a major shift on offense as standout quarterback Andrew Body announced he will re-enter the NCAA transfer portal, bringing an end—at least for now—to a historic run in Montgomery.

Body, who earned SWAC Offensive Player of the Year honors and was named the 2025 HBCU Player of the Year, leaves after one of the most dynamic seasons by a quarterback in Alabama State history. His dual-threat ability, leadership and command of the offense made him the centerpiece of the Hornets’ resurgence and one of the most electrifying players in HBCU football.

During the season, Body consistently delivered clutch performances, lighting up defenses with his arm and legs while elevating the play of those around him. His impact extended beyond the stat sheet, energizing the fan base and drawing national attention to Alabama State’s program.

This marks the second time Body has entered the transfer portal, a reflection of the fluid and evolving landscape of college football in the NIL and portal era. His departure represents a significant loss for the Hornets, who now face the challenge of replacing not only a prolific quarterback but a proven leader.

For Body, the move opens the door to new opportunities at the FCS or FBS level, where his accolades and game film are expected to generate strong interest.

As Alabama State regroups and looks ahead, one thing is clear: Andrew Body leaves Montgomery as one of the most accomplished quarterbacks to ever wear the Hornets’ black and gold.
