Authorities have confirmed that human remains found more than two years ago in Montgomery belong to Jordan Lashelle Fitzpatrick, a missing Alabama teenager whose disappearance gripped the Tuskegee community.

The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office announced Friday that Jordan’s remains were discovered on August 18, 2023, behind a building in the 2300 block of Poplar Street in Montgomery. Her body, officials said, had been burned beyond recognition.

At the time, the discovery was ruled a homicide, but no public announcement was made until recently.

A Cold Case Revived

Jordan was living with a family member in Tuskegee in April 2023 when she vanished. Her family quickly filed a missing person’s report, but the case appeared to grow cold as months passed without answers.

The breakthrough came after genetic genealogy testing linked DNA evidence to Jordan. According to the DA’s office, a genetic genealogy report shared with the Cold Case Unit produced a match, leading to a new DNA profile that was later confirmed through analysis by the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences.

Officials said the profile from the genealogy report matched DNA collected during Jordan’s autopsy, allowing investigators to positively confirm her identity.

Her family was notified in September 2025, and an obituary for Jordan was published on September 25.

Investigation Ongoing

Both the Montgomery County and Fifth Judicial Circuit District Attorneys’ offices are now working together on the ongoing homicide investigation.

Fifth Judicial Circuit District Attorney Mike Segrest, whose jurisdiction includes Macon County, where Jordan disappeared, said her death remains an active investigation and urged anyone with information to come forward.

“No family should have to wait this long for answers,” Segrest said. “We remain committed to seeking justice for Jordan and her loved ones.”

Authorities are asking anyone with information about Jordan’s death to contact the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office at 334-832-2550.
