HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Kamiyha Griffin turned in a perfect shooting performance, but it wasn’t enough to lift Alabama A&M University past rival UAH as the Bulldogs fell 74–63 in the 2025 Mayor’s Cup on Monday night at the AAMU Event Center.
Griffin went 6-for-6 from the field to lead AAMU with 14 points and two assists. Jaida Belton battled inside for a double-double, collecting 13 rebounds and 11 points. Sumayah McIntosh added 11 points, three rebounds, and two steals, while Moses Davenport chipped in 11 points and five boards.
For UAH, Lili Wilken scored a game-high 25 points—14 coming in the second half—along with nine rebounds and two assists. Millie Brown added 20 points, three assists, and two steals as the Chargers pulled away late to secure the win.
Alabama A&M opened strong, taking a 10–6 lead midway through the first quarter. However, an 8–0 UAH run, capped by a Millie Brown three-pointer, shifted momentum. The Bulldogs cut the deficit to one late in the period, but a three from Chloe Siegel gave UAH a 22–18 advantage after the first quarter.
AAMU kept the game close in the second, trailing 36–31 at halftime. The Bulldogs surged ahead in the third with an 11–3 run, capped by a Griffin bucket that gave them a 42–39 lead. UAH responded, and the teams traded baskets before the Chargers edged ahead 48–46 entering the final period.
UAH opened the fourth quarter with an 11–2 burst, holding AAMU without a field goal for over four minutes. McIntosh hit key free throws to cut the deficit to five late, but the Bulldogs couldn’t close the gap as UAH claimed the rivalry win.
The Bulldogs shot 33.8% from the field and grabbed 43 rebounds, including 23 offensive boards. Alabama A&M also scored 36 points in the paint and 17 off turnovers.
AAMU opens the 2025–26 regular season on Nov. 5 at home against Talladega College. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. and will stream live on SWAC TV.
