Huntsville Parks & Rec Opens Registration for 2025–26 Male Mentorship Program

by SPEAKIN’ OUT NEWS

Participants in Huntsville’s Male Mentorship Program take part in activities designed to build confidence, leadership skills, and positive relationships with mentors throughout the school year.

The City of Huntsville’s Parks & Recreation Department is now opening registration for its highly regarded Male Mentorship Program, an initiative designed to guide and empower boys ages 8 to 17 through a year of structured mentorship, growth, and support.

The 2025–2026 program year will officially begin sign-ups on Monday, Aug. 4, with registration closing Wednesday, Oct. 1. The cost to register is $25 per child, and spots are limited. Activities will run throughout the school year and are divided into two age groups—ages 8–12 and 13–17—to ensure more focused mentorship and development.

Led by trained recreation staff, the Male Mentorship Program connects youth with positive role models, skill-building activities, and guest speakers—all aimed at helping participants develop confidence, self-discipline, and a sense of purpose.

“The Male Mentorship Program is a meaningful investment in the growth and development of our youth,” said Parks & Recreation Director James Gossett. “We are proud to offer such an impactful initiative that helps prepare young men for the opportunities and responsibilities of adulthood.”

In addition to welcoming participants, the department is also actively recruiting male mentors. Prospective mentors must complete an application and pass a background check to ensure the safety and success of the program.
