The Huntsville Metro Black Chamber of Commerce (HMBCC) was pleased to partner with the Calvary Hills Branch of the Boys and Girls Clubs to host the HMBCC’s annual Black Business Tour on July 23rd. HMBCC Manager Antoinette Hawthorne stated, “We were excited to host the teenagers, ages 13 to 16, and let them experience the diverse business enterprises owned and operated by Black business owners. Meeting and talking to the business leaders about what it takes to start and run a business, will hopefully inspire the kids to look at the opportunities related to being a business owner”.
Seven businesses were visited including: Regine Valcin, Regine 40.6.33 Salon; Dr. Brian Moore, Arsenal Combat Sports Club (the largest combat sports club in North Alabama); Dr. Renee Collins, Valley Conservatory (music education & musicians for hire); Neville Simpson, Headshot Huntsville Photography; Attorney Raven Perry-Beach, Beach Law Practice; and Terrell Davis, Superhero Chef restaurant.
HMBCC CEO Jerry Mitchell said he was thankful that at each stop the kids were able to communicate something they learned during the visit. He expects some future business owners to develop from the group. He also expressed appreciation for Ms. Elmore and Coach Chris of the Boys and Girls Club for their eagerness to facilitate the tour and coordinate all transportation.
