Martinez, Ramirez and Morgan Medal at National Championship Games

THE HILL | Alabama A&M University women’s volleyball student-athletes Nissan Martinez and Fatima Ramirez won Gold for Belize in the 2025 U23 Women’s Central American Games, while Nhya Morgan won Bronze with Costa Rica in the U21 Pan American Cup.  

Ramirez and Martinez beat Guatemala 3-1 in the Gold Match in Belize City, Belize. Martinez was also also tabbed as an individual award recipient, earning Best Opposite notches, as chosen by the opposing team coaches.  

“Congratulations to Belize on winning Gold in the U23 Central American Championship”, AAMU head coach Dr. Brandon Reeves said. “I am incredibly proud of Fatima and Nissan- their dedication and hard work truly paid off. I believe this tournament has not only showcased their talent but also prepared them even more for our challenging upcoming season”, he continued.  

1000 miles south, Morgan and Costa Rica defeated Canada in a 3-1 decision to claim the bronze medal.  

“Big congrats to Costa Rica for grabbing Bronze in the U21 Pan American Cup”, Reeves said. “We are so proud of Nhya and cannot wait to see what she brings to the Bulldog team this season. Exciting times ahead”.  

Martinez, Ramirez and Morgan will join the Bulldogs this season as they host the second annual Betty Austin Invitational. The sophomore edition of the Invitational will see Morgan State (MSU), South Carolina State (SCSU) and Delaware State (DSU) take on the Golden Lions of Arkansas Pine-Bluff and the Jaguars of Southern University for a SWAC/MEAC Challenge. Alabama A&M will open play in the Invitational with a Battle of the Bulldogs, facing off against SCSU on Aug. 29 before playing the Bears of MSU. The Bulldogs will round out the Challenge by taking on DSU the following day (Aug. 30
