Scott Erwin, Community Development Manager for the City of Huntsville, emphasizes the city’s commitment to supporting vulnerable residents through vital partnerships with local nonprofits receiving Emergency Solutions Grant funding.

The City of Huntsville is allocating $300,000 in Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) funds to support organizations that assist the homeless across Madison, Limestone, and Morgan counties.

The Huntsville City Council approved the funding, which will be distributed by the Community Development Department through the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA). According to Huntsville Community Development Manager Scott Erwin, only nonprofit groups serving the unsheltered are eligible under ADECA’s 2024 ESG Program.

“The city is committed to helping our most vulnerable residents by partnering with agencies that offer shelter, case management, and other critical resources,” said Erwin. “These funds will help ensure continued services for those experiencing homelessness.”

Several recipient organizations operate warming centers during extreme cold in addition to offering year-round support.

The grants are being awarded to the following organizations:

  • AshaKiran – $15,000 for emergency shelter operations and essential services.
  • Community Action Partnership – $108,000 for homelessness prevention and rapid rehousing.
  • Crisis Services of North Alabama – $38,000 for shelter operations and essential services.
  • First Stop – $54,000 for street outreach.
