(Huntsville, AL) Waking up on the morning of November 6th and hearing the news that Democrats didn’t win the White House is shocking and unbelievable, given the momentum and energy around the Harris Walz Campaign. Nevertheless, we still have work to do and must begin the recovery and rebuilding process.  Although there are still many questions lingering in our minds about how this could happen, we can find comfort in the fact that we did all that we could do given the circumstances.  The contrast between the candidates was clear, but the election results told a different story. It’s interesting how we teach our children to be honest, kind, caring and America voted for a person who totally contradicts these basic values.

Going forward, we will continue recovering and rebuilding from this loss and recommit ourselves to better support our Party. We will work harder to get more Democrats on the ballot and increase voter turnout.   As we turn this disappointment into an opportunity, we will work with an even greater resolve to strengthen and protect our community for the future.

On a positive note, Commissioner Violet Edwards handily won re-election by the highest percentage, 89.01%, for a Democrat in Madison County in recent history.  Also, Guy Sotomayor’s run for county commission chair was competitive, getting 40.2% of the vote.

I want to thank all the members and many volunteers who stepped up and sacrificed so much to elevate our presence in the County and for helping to get folks to the polls.  And to the army of poll watchers who spent their election day ensuring a fair election across the County, we are eternally grateful.

Finally, I’d like to quote Jill Shalvis who said, ”If you don’t leave your past in the past, it’ll destroy your future. You’ve got to live for what today’s offering, not for what yesterday took away from you.”
