BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Alabama A&M University kicker Victor Barbosa earned the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Co-Specialist of the Week honor, the conference announced on Monday.
Barbosa, a native of Hialeah Gardens, Fla., helped Alabama A&M defeat Grambling State for the third consecutive season as the Bulldogs came from behind for the 22-17 victory. The redshirt junior kicker went 4-for-4 on field goal attempts, with kicks of 45, 44, 38 and 19 yards. His 19-yarder gave AAMU a 22-17 lead with 7:20 remaining.
Mississippi Valley State’s Nathan Rembert was named the SWAC’s Offensive Player of the Week and Jackson State’s Robert McDaniel earned the Defensive Player of the Week honor. Matt Noll, of Jackson State, shared the honor with Barbosa and Texas Southern’s Athean Renfro was tabbed the SWAC’s Newcomer of the Week.
Alabama A&M returns to action on Saturday as the Bulldogs visit Mississippi Valley State. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. from Rice-Totten Stadium and streamed on The Grio.
