HUNTSVILLE POLICE: MAN WHO ACCIDENTALLY SHOT PREGNANT WOMAN CHARGED WITH RECKLESS MURDER OF UNBORN BABY

Dequerius Amar Clayborn

A 27-year-old Huntsville man has been arrested for the Saturday shooting of a pregnant Huntsville woman, authorities say.

At 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 19, officers arrived at the 200 block of Binford Drive and found a 24-year-old female victim with a gunshot wound and Dequerius Amar Clayborn with a gun.

Clayborn was detained and Huntsville police quickly transported the victim to Huntsville Hospital for treatment, according to Police Sgt. Chris Jackson.

During the department’s preliminary investigation, it was believed that Clayborn mishandled his firearm and accidentally shot the female victim.

On Oct. 21, investigators were able to speak with the victim and learned she was pregnant at the time of the shooting, which resulted in the death of her unborn child.

The victim is currently in stable condition at Huntsville Hospital.

Clayborn was booked into the Madison County Jail on Monday, Oct. 21.

He is being held without bond on a reckless murder charge as well as charges of aggravated assault and driving without a license.
