TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Alabama A&M women’s cross country delivered one of their best performances in a decade, finishing 6-of-12 with a pair of All-Conference performers at the 2022 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Championships on Monday, October 24.
The sixth place finish ties for the second highest finish since 2012, equaling last year and trailing only the third place outing at the 2019 championships. Fueling that performance this year was senior Aneisha Ingram (Frankfield, Jamaica) who placed 3-of-72 with a time of 19:43.50, earning her the highest finish by a Bulldog at the Championships since at least 2012.
That performance also netted her All-SWAC First-Team honors and she was joined on the Second-Team by graduate Taylor Wingo (D’Iberville, Miss.). The latter placed 10th overall with a time of 20:25.20, making it the first time in at least a decade that A&M has had multiple selections in the same season.
The only other All-SWAC honorees in that time have been Sabria Wooten with a fourth place finish in 2019 and Shaquina Phalo with an eighth place outing in 2012 when available records date back to.
“To bring home multiple All-Conference accolades to Huntsville is a solid step in the right direction for our program,” said head coach Andrew Murphy. “These young ladies have worked hard and deserve all the recognition as we use these performances as a benchmark as we transition to indoor track.”
Bethune-Cookman claimed the team championships with 90 points with Alcorn State (108), Grambling (108), Alabama State (137), Jackson State (147) and A&M (157) rounding out the top half of the field.
The Bulldogs wrap up the 2022 season with one of their best performances not only of this year but of the past decade and are poised to springboard into the indoor track & field season beginning later this year.
