A west Alabama jailer is under arrest on multiple charges of inappropriate sexual contact with an inmate.
Marquita Booker, 28, was booked into the Pickens County Jail Friday afternoon on 16 counts of custodial sex abuse. Booker has worked as a corrections officer at the jail for just four months but is no longer employed there following her arrest.
Jail records show she was booked at 3:42 p.m. She is being held without bond.
Sheriff Todd Hall said the charges involve one inmate. He did not identify the inmate or his charges that landed him in the jail.
The sheriff said he is obviously disappointed.
“These are things you can’t prepare for. You don’t see them coming,’’ Hall said. “You trust people to do a job. When things like this happen, you have to be aggressive by pursuing it.”
“We’re not going to stand for any type of activity like that,’’ he said. “We’ll now let the court system take control.”
