Thanks to Speakin Out News and to our many dedicated readers. I want to wish my son a Happy Birthday. His birthday was on April 20th and the family went out to eat together and had a great time. I like celebrating other’s birthdays but don’t care to celebrate my own. I had lost count of my age when someone ask me how old I was and my daughter had to correct me. Time really passes by fast.
POLITICS
There is a primary election coming up and it is hard to know who to vote for. There are so many political commercials and people pushing their candidates. Why are the new candidates not talking more about how to make our state and cities safer and what they would do for the people if they were elected rather than talking bad about each other. It doesn’t matter if you are Democrat or Republican anymore as our cities, states and country are a terrible mess. Be sure to vote during these elections.
NEW UAH BUILDING
The first phase of the new Engineering building project for UAH has reached an approval from the University of Alabama Board of Trustees. During the past year UAH has had an average of more than 2,300 degrees every year. The new expansion and enhancements for the new Engineering building will provide much improved research capabilities for the UAH facility, staff and students.
PLANNING COMMISSION
The Planning Commission Chairman discussed the pros and cons of Huntsville’s rapid growth and concerns about the changing of the Landscape in an article in the Huntsville Times. Why did the officials want an Amphitheater at the MidCity property and who owns the property at the mall? The Planning Commission along with votes from the City Council, has changed the setbacks and variances on several pieces of property in our city allowing builders to build up to the property lines and almost in the streets. It is outrageous how our city leaders bend over backwards to help their big developer friends. I wish the citizens really knew the truth about the big and fast development taking place in our city.
RICHARD SHOWERS CENTER
Our local leaders are thinking about tearing down the Richard Showers Center. They better use some common sense here. I hope any City leader that votes to have this center torn down gets voted out of office. The leaders are also going to tear down the Housing Authority on Governors Drive saying it has radon in it when half the houses in Huntsville have radon in them. Do the leaders want new development all the way to STONE MIDDLE? It certainly appears so. The proposed skybridge form downtown to Lincoln Mill is the biggest waste of money ever proposed. Have our leaders not already torn up this city enough with the all the new red brick buildings? The public has not been involved in any of the development decisions but you can bet the developers are in big with the Planning Department and the leaders that run this city.
Love you all and have a blessed week.
