“One Woman’s Opinion

Thanks to Speakin Out News and to our many dedicated readers. I will be glad to see Spring and Summer weather this year. It has been a hard, trying year for everyone with the Virus being around.

Schools started back with in-person classes again. The students and teachers have had problems with many being sick and many teachers retiring.  Prayers are needed for everyone. Caring, loving and faith will help us all get through this.

POLITICS

The word politics is always on my mind. I cannot understand why our politicians vote to change so many things. I wish the public and people knew more about the politicians on the ballot and how and why they voted on the issues they did while in office. Every election year people bring up personal issues on candidate to get them voted out of office. Personal matters should be left out of politics.

MADISON CITY COUNCIL

I attended two Madison City Council meetings last week where they are considering hiring a City Manager. This is the third time I have seen this item brought up for Madison. The two previous times under different Madison Mayors it was voted down. Under the new plan, the City Manager would be hired by the city council and the Mayor and would carry out the vision and policies of the council while running the city like a business. The Committee said having a City Manager would allow the mayor to spend more time talking with the public instead of overseeing the city operation. There would still be a mayor elected at-large and a voice from the citizens of the city to direct the plans for the city.

HUNTSVILLE CITY COUNCIL

Please go see the parking garage in front of city hall and the fences they have put up all around the building in preparation to tear it down. When going to the City Council meeting last week we could not even find a place to park near the City Hall building and had to walk about 2 blocks to get around the fences. What a disaster they have caused. The Council and Mayor get to park behind city hall and ride the elevator up. I care a lot about the courthouse and the downtown businesses and the public needs a place to park. I believe tearing down this parking garage is the worst decision I have seen in 30 years. All the council voted to approve without any questioning by the council. Changing the agenda to push public comments to the end of the meeting was not enough to keep the public away from city meetings. Now they have removed our parking spaces. Go see what your leaders have done to this city. If you think Washington politics is bad, come to Huntsville, Alabama.

Love you all and have a blessed week.
