Thanks to Speakin Out News and to our many dedicated readers. Sunday was a beautiful day with the sun shinning but it was a bit chilly. It is hard to keep up with 55 degrees one day and 29 degrees or less the next. Many people are wanting to work in their yards but it is still too cold.
The Alabama Department of Public Health reported Alabama’s COVID positive cases in a seven-day period reached an all time high on Wednesday of 45.3% of those tested. Alabama’s positivity rate is among the highest in the nation according to the U.S. Department of Health and humane services. You should get vaccinated because it has been reported to be safe, is free of charge and can keep you from getting COVID-19. It could keep you from becoming seriously ill and help to protect your family. Vaccinations are the first step in life returning to normal.
Many of the school systems have shifted to remote learning. Over 215,000 students in the state, nearly 1 in 3 are now doing remote learning. Reports shown from last week show Alabama’s total cases of COVID-19 among students, teachers, staff members are at an all-time high of more than 25,000. There are 31 schools that have shifted to remote learning. The hospitals are also overcrowded and they are short on staff.
POLITICS
I wish the citizens would be more interested in politics and who is on the ballot come election day. If people only knew how fast this country is changing, and on so many issues. We can only blame our elected Politicians. They have changed the Constitution many times on different ideas. The public should be the only ones that can vote to change to the Constitution but the public is not even involved in these decisions and many do not care. What happened to the voting rights and who is allowed to vote and how we are allowed to vote?
CITY LEADERS
This is election year and there will be elections for City Council and School Board Members on August 3rd. Please watch the weekly City Council meetings on the 2nd and 4th Thursday night of the month on cable Channel 42. These meetings start at 5:30.
The Council voted to change the Code to the Agenda so that the public is not allowed to speak at the council meetings until the end of the meeting. This is not acceptable as the votes have already taken placed before the public gets to speak.
CITIY PARKING GARAGE
It is a disgrace and outrageous our City Leaders are tearing down the parking garage across from the municipal building. This building is beautiful, open and easy to get in and out of and is in a great location. We need to either fix the current building or build a new City Hall back where the current one sits today. Big money is running this city with this Council. Love you all and have a blessed week.
