COVID-19
Many schoolboards are making decisions on whether students are required to wear mask to school as there is no statewide mask mandates. Local school officials have been given the authority to decide what health and safety guidelines to put in place. About half of the state’s 149 districts are requiring mask while only 26 are offering virtual options for all grades according to a report. There is a projection of 5,000 COVID-19 patients being hospitalized for next month. It is not good for the hospitals that are already stretched to capacity said Dr. Judd, a professor of public health at UAH. According to information from state hospitals, 85% of adult patients were unvaccinated, 3% were partially vaccinated and 12% were fully vaccinated. Many hospitals in the state are struggling with staff and ICU bed capacity as virus cases surge. I really do not like to write about this, but this is a concern and we must take care of our loved ones.
CITY COUNCIL MEETINGS
I wish everyone would go one time to a City Council meeting and read the agenda. There are many new projects and big building are springing up all over the city. The agenda has many new properties annexed into the city of Huntsville. There has been many Ordinances changed in the past 8 years such as setbacks on property, vacating the right of ways and allies, paintings on buildings, changing ordinance of home building areas, Commercial and Industrial parks, many billboards, and signs advertising businesses. Hotels are being built everywhere and the city is building and paying for many large parking garages for the developers. This is not the same city I moved to and cannot believe the planning taking place. Do the citizens even care? Over the past 30 years, the citizens were involved in the council decisions and the council had work sessions to discuss the details. Today the people only see the presentations presented at the council meeting with NO questions allowed from the public. This month communication from the public will be moved to the end of the council meetings. They also made a rule that once you speak on a topic during the meeting you are not allowed to speak again on any other topic.
POLITICS
I will never live long enough to understand politics and Politicians. There are so many ways that politicians make over and above their salaries. Some of the ways are questionable and not always ethical.
