
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Alabama A&M (11-17, 8-10 SWAC) softball has earned the No. 3 Seed out of the East Division will take on the No. 2 Seed from the West Division in Prairie View A&M (15-14, 12-6 SWAC) in the first round of the 2021 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Tournament on Tuesday, May 11. First pitch is set for 12 p.m. in Gulfport, Mississippi.
The Bulldogs enter the field on the upswing having won their last three to close the regular season, sweeping Mississippi Valley State by scores of 4-3, 4-3 and 4-1 from April 30 through May 1. Meanwhile, the Panthers come into the tournament having split their last six games and dropped a three-game set to Grambling in Prairie View, Texas. They fell 6-3 in the opener, won the middle game 6-5 and lost the finale 9-6.
The winner of that game will play the winner of No. 1E Jackson State and No. 4W Southern at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 12 while the loser will face the loser of that game at noon. The other half of the bracket consists of No. 2E Alabama State taking on No. 3W Grambling and No. 1 Texas Southern facing No. 4E Alcorn State.
The tournament will run from May 11-15 with the championship series beginning on Friday, May 14. It will conclude that day or on Saturday, May 15 with the “if necessary” game.
