ONE WOMAN’S OPINION

Jackie Reed, Columnist

Thanks, to Speakin Out News and to our many dedicated readers.  Prayers are needed every day for family and friends.  I want to thank “GOD” for giving me a beautiful caring loving family as they have shown so much love and are always there when I need them.  My son and daughter have been taking me to the doctors, City Council and anywhere I need to go while I have been unable to drive. They have lots of Faith.

EASTER SUNDAY

Thanks to my daughter in-law for reminding me that Easter Sunday is next Sunday, April 4th. It is so hard keeping up with everything as time passes so fast.  Wish you all a happy blessed Easter.

Enjoy every day as life is short lived. There are many changes taking place and our leaders are not doing a good job taking care of the people.  Staying safe, loving each other, and caring about the changes that are taking place is what we all need to do.

MASK MANDATE

Madison County is ending its mask mandate next month on April 9th following the lead set by Gov. Kay Ivey.  The Mayor and Madison County Chairman has indicated they will all go along with the Governor’s ending of the mask ordinance.  Mayor Battle cautions that businesses can still require masks.  There is no date to expand the vaccine to all adults as the supply is still limited.

BIDEN’ NEWS CONFERENCE

Thanks Mr. President for a holding a news conference after being in office 65 days.   There were only 10 reporters in the room and the President only took questions from a few that he read off a list.  Many people and politicians are upset over the illegal immigration that is taking place at our border and the questions related to the plan to address this were avoided by the president during the news conference. The virus and many other key issues were not even mentioned or talked about.

CIITY COUNCIL MEETING

Last Thursday night I was told there would not be a City Council meeting because the weather was forecasting tornadoes, so I did not plan on going.  At 5:30 I turned on the TV and saw the City Council meeting and it was packed with people. I called my son to take me, and I was there in a manner of minutes. I want to thank Mr. John Hamilton for finding me a seat and I did get to speak for my 3 minutes.   I told Mayor Battle if I had wanted to live in a big city, I would have moved to one and that he is tearing up this city. I asked why at every meeting the City is declaring property as Surplus and not telling us what is going to happen to the property. Are our City leaders giving this property away to help their friends and their businesses? The City is also building parking garages and providing 50-year leases on them.  I want to know the address of these surplus properties, their estimated value and why they are choosing to surplus them. As citizens we have a right to know.  Please stop and do some planning with some Common Sense as this City Council is not doing a good job.

Love you all and have a blessed week.
