Strong elected to continue leading powerful panel setting road priorities
IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Madison County Commission Chair Dale W. Strong was re-elected as Chairman of the Huntsville area Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO); a committee comprised of government leaders representing local cities and regional representatives for the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT). The MPO meets quarterly to determine short and long-range transportation projects, coordinate Federal, State, and local funding, and monitor the progress of ongoing road projects.
The leadership of the MPO met last Wednesday and voted to re-elect Dale W. Strong as Chairman of the panel. Currently, the MPO is administering more than $377M in local transportation projects – the largest dollar amount of projects under construction or planning in its history. The panel consists of the Mayors of Huntsville, Madison, Triana, and Owens Cross Roads as well as a member of the Huntsville City Council and the ALDOT North Region Engineer. Strong cited the history of local leaders working together as a reason for the recent success of the MPO.
“Regional leadership in north Alabama has teamed together to create thousands of new jobs in recent years. Now, working together once again with one voice, our MPO has secured more than $377M in local transportation projects to help us manage this new growth and prepare north Alabama for the future,” said Strong.
First elected in 2014, this is Strong’s sixth term as Chair of the MPO and he is excited about the future. “Our work at the MPO is just another example of what can happen when our federal, state, and local governments work together in unison. I am proud to contribute to this process and honored to serve as Chairman of this critical organization,” said Strong.
