Children helped pick berries, too, and cooled off by sliding down the tropical water slide.

On Tuesday, June 11, 2019, Oakwood University hosted the Inaugural Oakwood Farms Bees ‘n’ Berries Fest to officially kick-off berry season.

The Bees ‘n’ Berries event was open to the public from 12:00 to 4:00 pm, and admission was free.

This family-friendly occasion offered activities for children, and for the adults: fresh produce, Oakwood Farms souvenirs, and baked goods were available for sale. Everyone was welcome to pick fresh berries.

The event was designed to celebrate the growth of the Oakwood Farms and its ability to now offer naturally-grown blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries.

The increasing need for quality fresh produce and its proximity to a food desert fuels the expansion of Oakwood Farms and serviceability to North Alabama. The Huntsville community is now able to purchase a variety of locally grown pesticide-free fruits and vegetables from the market.

Upon the completion of its new facility, currently under construction on Adventist Boulevard, the Oakwood Farms market will be positioned to increase its offerings further.
