SELMA, AL – Former State Senator Hank Sanders said, “Many national leaders will be participating in the Bridge Crossing Jubilee from February 28th – March 3, 2019. We expect five or six presidential candidates, a number of national civil rights leaders as well as other national leaders.”
Faya Rose Toure, National Coordinator of the Bridge Crossing Jubilee said: “The Freedom Flame Awards will be a great event on Saturday Night, March 2nd. There are such great speakers, great music, great food and great recognitions of excellence.”
A few of the national leaders are as follows:
Presidential Candidates – We are releasing only the names of those presidential candidates who have confirmed in writing and they are as follows: Julian Castro, former Secretary of HUD and Mayor of San Antonio, Texas; and U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown of Ohio. Others will be released as they confirm in writing or as they announce their participation.
Special National Participants – Susan Taylor, former the Editor of Essence Magazine; Hank Aaron, Baseball Great; Roland Martin, National Media Personality; Gwen Carr, mother of Eric Garner, who was killed in New York; and Reverend Mark Thompson, SiriusXM Satellite Radio Host and television personality. All these persons and more will appear at the Freedom Flame Awards.
Civil Rights Leaders – Dr. William Barber, Co-chair of the Poor Peoples Campaign and leader of Repairer of the Breach; Reverend Jesse Jackson of Rainbow PUSH; and SCLC National President Charles Steele, Martin Luther King, III, and Rev. Bernice King.
Sanders said: “We expect to announce additional presidential candidates in the next couple of days. We will also announce other nationally known leaders. The Jubilee involves 40-50 events and tens of thousands attend the event every year.”
