Rho Chi Omega Chapter’s 28th Annual Angel Pageant

Rho Chi Omega Chapter President, Angel Pageant Committee Chair, Co-Chair and Committee Members and Arch Angel Participants

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Rho Chi Omega Chapter, held its 28th Annual Angel Pageant Sunday, April 15, 2018. This enchanting event was held at Lee High School. This year’s theme was “Angels Soar High, Wearing Their Invisible Crowns”.

Mrs. Pamela Scott served as the chairman and Mrs. Tiffany Childress and Mrs. Tamera Lowe-Preer served as Co-Chairmen. Mr. Robert Drake served as the Master of Ceremony. There were 25 participants called “angels”, who range from four years of age to the 8th grade. They were divided into three categories: Cherubim (age 4 – 1st Grade), Guardian (2nd Grade – 4th Grade) and Arch (5th – 8th Grade). The pageantry activities leading up to the actual pageant included enhancement workshops, Mommy and Me Healthy Heart activity, Father and Daughter Tea, and the Fashion and Talent Extravaganza. During the enhancement workshops, these young ladies were introduced to etiquette, the importance of a healthy heart, academics through STEM and the importance of serving in the community. The community service activity included backpack donations for needy children and canned food donations to the Rose of Sharon Soup Kitchen.

Participation awards were given to each angel. Awards were given to the top three winners in each category. The angel who possessed the most charm and grace was the overall winner in her category. The pageant winners are as follows:

Cherubim – Savanah Granger (1st Place), Raleigh Elliott (2nd Place) and Skylar Arch (3rd Place)

Guardian – Taylor Arch (1st Place), Blake Weaver (2nd Place) and Kylee Horton (3rd Place)

Arch – D’Asia Malone-Johnson (1st Place), Kennedy Arch (2nd Place) and Janae Hilliard (3rd Place)

The angels showcased their many talents during the Talent and Fashion Extravaganza. The talent winners are as follows:

Cherubim: Savanah Granger (1st Place), Samiya Reese (2nd Place) and London Redmon (3rd Place)

Guardian: Nia Hamilton (1st Place), Taylor Arch (2nd Place) and Carlie Mumpfield and Blake Weaver (3rd Place Tie).

Arch: D’Asia Malone-Johnson (1st Place), Taylor Martin (2nd Place) and Kennedy Arch (3rd Place)

The Photogenic Award winner is Savanah Granger. The Memory Book Award winners are Cherubim (Samiya Reese); Guardian (Payton Minisee) and Arch (D’Asia Malone-Johnson).

The Tanisha Reeves “Miss. Congeniality” Award was given to the angel who displayed friendliness and was helpful amongst her peers. This year’s winner is Angel Kennedy Arch. She received a $500.00 savings bond from Mr. and Mrs. Jonathan (Norma) Reeves and their daughter Jaelyn. This award is given in memory of the Reeves’ daughter.

The Angel Pageant tradition was established in 1990, by the late Dr. Olivia Harris Sanders who was also the visionary member of Rho Chi Omega Chapter. Portions of the proceeds from this event will be used for academic scholarships and charitable donations.
