Alabama A&M University’s broadcast component has just made another major step toward upgrading its high definition capabilities.

Led by unit director Elvin Jenkins, key University officials visited Electronic Media Communications (EMC) recently to gain a better understanding of the impact of more than $50,000 allocated toward purchases of advanced equipment.

In addition to providing television and radio programming with staff professionals, EMC also serves as a learning laboratory for communication/media studies students, who are afforded opportunities to learn about the broadcast industry from a variety of perspectives.

During their visit to the area, AAMU President Andrew Hugine, Jr.; Archie Tucker, vice president for marketing, communication and advancement; and Clayton Gibson, vice president for business and finance; viewed equipment demonstrations led by ECM associate director Michael Burns and chief engineer Michael Morns.

The EMC production studio has a more than 40-year history of covering such campus events as commencements, galas, athletic events, and campus news.  The facility upgraded the television studio to full high-definition (HD) capability with the purchase of four video cameras and a 4K UHD tricaster.  In particular, the tricaster will allow high quality video capture, as well as provide students hands-on experience with the best professional equipment.

The new setup allows us to give students a better idea of how real-world television studios work, enabling to produce top quality videos for their portfolios,” said Jenkins.
