One Woman’s Opinion

Thanks Speakin’ Out News and to the many readers. It is hard to predict the weather any more, but we have had some pretty weather lately. I am so thankful for the Smothers family for allowing my column in Speakin’ Out News. It is a great stress reliever and much better than a doctor’s visit for stress. It has given me a way to try and inform the public what goes in politics in our beautiful city. I am tough on the City leaders at times but they as elected officials need to be held accountable. As my father said many years ago, they only made one of me and I am one of kind. Wonder what he would think today as active as I have been.

SCHOOL SUPERINTENDENT
At last Thursday night’s School Board meeting the board voted on Dr. Atkin’s resignation. I believe that he would have able to clean up our school system and the many problems it currently has. He cared about the teachers, students and education. He has a granddaughter in Gulf shores and made a good decision to resign and relocate there. He will be missed as he already gave the teachers a raise every year for the next 3 years and cut out a lot of waste. Wish you the best Dr. Atkin.

CITY ANNEX
At the last City Council meeting all the City Council members voted to go along with the Mayor, John Hamilton and City planning to tear down the white marble Annex building. That is the white Marble building where the Fire Trucks were parked for years. If you want pictures of history and our beautiful city go take some now before it is too late. The public has never received a Letter of Intent as to what they are doing with these buildings. I do not believe that any of this was put out for bid. Also, it is a historical building of which should be looked at by Governor Kay Ivey’s Preservation Act Bill that was passed in August. The city says that these building are not covered under that but these buildings are over 40 years old.

VBC NEEDS PROPERTY
Where are our City Leaders and why are they not interested in buying the Coke plant? This is Prime property for the VBC to build a big Convention Center with parking in the next lot. The VBC could schedule the concerts for the center. The City Council hired a Consultant for $175,000.00 to determine what is best for entertainment in Huntsville.

ELECTION JUNE 5, 2018
Remember August 28, 2018 is City Election time this year. Start reading and finding who it the best person for the new elections coming up and vote. Governor Kay Ivey is one I am seriously looking at as I have heard her speak in person twice and I like what she has to say. She was raised in the country and has Faith, strength, determination and cares about Alabama. Love you all have a blessed week.
