AUBURN, Al— Alabama A&M men’s and women’s track and field teams arrived at Auburn University to participate in the two-day War Eagle Invitational hosted at the Hutsell-Rosen Track and Field Complex.
Both teams are coming off the Alabama A&M University home meet “Bulldog Invitational” hosted at Louis Crews Stadium, where the team finished 1st in the Combined Team Score total.
On the women’s side, AAMU won the event with a total score of 168, Miles College finished 2nd with a score of 101 and Mississippi Valley finished in the 3rd position with a total of 100 points. On the Men’s side Morehouse University finished in the 1st place position with a score of 174.5, followed by AAMU with a score of 138 and Tuskegee in 3rd place with a total score of 55.5.
“The Bulldog Invitational meet tested how much heart I really had and tested if I was really ready for competition in any weather due to the fact that we had to run in the rain despite a couple of delays,” Donald Weakley said. “Things started off bad, but in the end of the day, I had a chance to show the other teams whose track they were really on. I believe that you are your only limit or competition. I look to carry that same confidence in this Auburn meet and continue to improve on my times.”
“Last weekend, for myself and a lot of the other teammates, was a comeback from the prior meet at Western Kentucky University and it gave us another opportunity to prepare ourselves mentally and physically for the rough weather conditions,” Akia Slaughter said. “We came out strong with a few personal best and for those who didn’t, it gave them a chance to see what they need to work on in practice to be prepared for this meet at Auburn.”
The War Eagle Invitational begin today with the men’s hammer throw at 2:00 pm and it will continue on Saturday with the women’s pole vault at 11:00 a.m. for the field events and 12:00 noon with the 4×100 meter relay for the running portion of the meet. Both team will be off next weekend in preparation for the 2018 SWAC Outdoor Championships held in Prairie View, TX on May 4-6th.
