Thanks Speakin Out News and to the many readers. Thanks to William Smothers and family for being a part of my family over the years. I have enjoyed writing a column in the paper and sometimes I have been very hard on political issues. The weather has been different lately and very hard to figure out. I want to wish my son a Happy Birthday on April 20th. He is a fine son!
SCHOOL SUPERINTENDENT
Huntsville City Schools Superintendent Dr. Matt Akin is a top candidate and a finalist for the position for the newly formed Gulf Shores City Schools. The search for the position drew 27 applications and Gulf Shores hopes to have a new superintendent in place by June 1. Dr. Akin was hired as Superintendent of Huntsville City Schools in March 2017. He was hired to replace Dr. Casey Wardyski when he resigned in the fall. I would hate to see Dr Akin leave as he is highly qualified and was hired at a time our schools are in one big mess. There were concerns about the salary of $195,000.00 annually plus a $900 per month car allowance and granted $10,000.00 for moving expense. The job he took was where schools were built like shopping centers, 176 buses twice a day, behavioral problems, desegregation order and City Leaders buying the schools.
Dr.Akin had no help from our City Leaders or anyone else in this City. I wish Dr. Akin the best. I do know he cares about the schools, teachers, and students and the word Education.
ISSUSES OF INTEREST
Michael McAllister, a Republican candidate for Alabama Governor who kept a low profile during his time in the race, was found dead last Sunday inside his Troy home. He had not been heard from for a few days when Deputies found he was already deceased. Also, NASA Engineer Rumaaha Maasha of Huntsville recently helped to save a possible disaster Commercial Flight when he notified flight crew that he noticed a leaking fluid on the right wing.
GOVERNOR’S RATING
Gov. Kay Ivey has a high approval rating and continues to receive high marks from her constituents. I was concerned about her and the debates but many thinks she is doing what is best. I support her because I have met her and heard her speak twice and she wants what is best for the people and the State.
CITY – MUSIC CULTURE
What is our City doing with your money? Last Thursday night they hired a consultant called MUSIC AUDIT and paid $175,000.00 for a study. Why don’t they buy the Coke Property and build a Convention Center for the VBC and they can book concerts and all entertainment. Love all of you have and a great week.
