
The Huntsville Alumnae Chapter or Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. hosted its inaugural watch party known as the Delta Derby Extravaganza, Where Fine Dining, Fashion and Fun Unite! The event was held at the Jackson Center, filled with beautiful women adorned in extravagant hats, elegant dresses and debonair men in stunning, seersucker suits.
Radio personality, Ed Gaines from 98.1 -The Beat hosted as Master of Ceremony. The Kentucky Derby was viewed live on big screens. Guests indulged an array of delectable hors d’oeuvres and buffet style dinner while enjoying the incomparable sounds of saxophonist Tommie Friend and danced to a live DJ. Guests participated in a “hat and seersucker suit” contest and relished photo ops with a live white horse “Blue Ivory” beautifully draped in red roses and hat.

During the event, Huntsville Alumnae’s Chapter President, Jackie Perry was presented with a proclamation officially declaring May 5, 2018 as Delta Derby Day in the city of Huntsville, AL. In the proclamation, Mayor Tommy Battle commended members of Huntsville Alumnae on their outstanding commitment and tireless dedication to public service.
The success of this festive event, chaired by Pamela McDonald, Demetra Gilmore and Agnes Holley-Smith, is sure to become one of the chapter’s annual signature fundraisers. All proceeds from Delta Derby Day will benefit the community service, youth and scholarship programs.
