Alfred Street Baptist Church representatives presented a $25,000 donation to Alabama A&M University’s Bulldog Market, supporting food and necessities for students experiencing food insecurity.

HUNTSVILLE — Alfred Street Baptist Church of Alexandria, Virginia, has donated $25,000 to Alabama A&M University’s Bulldog Market, helping students access food and other necessities as they pursue their education.

The campus pantry provides food, beverages, hygiene products, and basic supplies to students experiencing ongoing or temporary food insecurity. According to AAMU, the gift is the market’s first donation of its kind from a church outside Alabama.

The contribution came through the congregation’s Tithe-the-Tithe Initiative, which has distributed more than $2.3 million since launching in 2020.

“The church has to be more concerned about what’s outside its doors than inside,” Pastor Howard-John Wesley said during a WJAB interview.

Longtime church member Roosevelt Conley, father of AAMU General Counsel Rochelle A. Conley, introduced church leaders to the pantry.

The delegation visited campus during its Huntsville trip for an Oct. 1 worship service at the Von Braun Center.

“This donation is important to our students because it helps us keep food on the shelves,” Bulldog Market Director Monica Clarke said.

The funding will supplement donated supplies as needs arise.
