HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Progressive Union Missionary Baptist Church will honor the Rev. Dion J. Watkins with a “5 | 25” anniversary celebration on Friday, October 23.
The numbers mark two milestones: five years of Watkins’ leadership at Progressive Union and 25 years of pastoral ministry. The church has scheduled an evening of music, food, dancing, and fellowship from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Jackson Center, 6001 Moquin Drive NW in Huntsville. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.
Watkins came to Progressive Union in 2021 after serving congregations in New York and Connecticut. According to the church’s biography, he was called into ministry as a teenager and became pastor of his home church in Lackawanna, New York, in 2001. His ministry has included work with young people and community outreach.
The anniversary gathering gives church members and guests an opportunity to reflect on that journey and recognize his leadership in Huntsville. Organizers describe the evening as a celebratory social, with dressy casual attire, rather than a traditional banquet.
