Mardasha Woods, a Huntsville mother of two, is recovering from injuries suffered in a deputy-involved crash that claimed the life of passenger Jacques Whitt. Her family is raising funds for recovery and legal assistance as the investigation continues.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — As investigators continue examining a deadly weekend crash involving a Madison County Sheriff’s Office deputy, the family of an injured Huntsville mother is seeking answers while raising money for legal representation and recovery expenses.

Mardasha D. Woods, 30, was driving a Kia Optima when it collided with a Madison County Sheriff’s Office vehicle shortly after midnight Saturday on Alabama 53 near mile marker 323, about six miles northwest of Huntsville.

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), Woods and her passenger, 27-year-old Jacques L. Whitt, were ejected from the vehicle during the collision. Authorities said neither occupant was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

Whitt was pronounced dead at the scene. Woods and another passenger were transported to Huntsville Hospital with injuries. The extent of their injuries has not been publicly disclosed.

ALEA officials said the deputy was actively responding to a call for service when the crash occurred at approximately 12:27 a.m. Authorities reported that the deputy’s emergency lights and siren were activated at the time of the collision. Investigators have also confirmed that the incident did not occur during a vehicle pursuit.

Officials said an intern was riding in the deputy’s patrol vehicle when the crash occurred. The deputy’s name has not been released, and authorities have not announced whether the deputy has been placed on administrative leave while the investigation remains ongoing.

A GoFundMe campaign established on behalf of Woods describes her as a devoted mother of two whose life was dramatically changed in an instant.

“Mardasha is a loving mother, devoted to her children, and someone who has always put her family first,” the fundraiser states.

Family members say donations will help support Woods and her children while covering medical, financial, and legal expenses. They say hiring an attorney is essential as they seek a clearer understanding of the circumstances surrounding the crash.

As Woods continues her recovery, loved ones say their focus remains on healing, supporting her children, and obtaining answers about the tragic collision that claimed the life of her friend.
