The U.S. Army Garrison at Redstone Arsenal is proposing to implement corrective measures at RSA-219, Chemical Storage Area in Salvage Yard Operable Unit 12, located in the southeastern portion of Redstone Arsenal. The site boundary covers approximately 5 acres within and near the current Defense Logistics Agency Salvage Yard, located at the end of Warehouse Road. Approximately 70 percent of the site is still in use for non-chemical salvage and storage. A drainage ditch runs through the center of the site. Beginning in the 1950s, the site was used for short-term storage of materials intended for salvage, including drums of solvents, and for burning/disposal of solvents in a burn pit.
