Alabama Mother Accused of Locking 3 Children Inside Running Car in Garage

Alicia Cade, of Springville, is facing attempted murder charges in St. Clair County.

An Alabama mother is facing attempted murder charges after authorities accused her of locking herself and her three children inside a running car in a garage.

Alicia Cade, of Springville, was booked into the St. Clair County Jail on May 22 while the investigation continues. St. Clair County arrest records say Cade locked herself and her three minor children inside a vehicle while the engine remained running inside a garage.

Authorities said officers responded to the scene and the situation escalated during the arrest. Police said Cade struck a responding officer in the face, leading to an additional assault charge.

The case has drawn concern because of the danger carbon monoxide can pose when a vehicle is left running inside an enclosed space. Exposure can become deadly, especially for children, in a short amount of time.

Court records show Cade previously faced an arson charge, but officials later dropped that charge during an Aniah’s Law hearing on April 28.

Cade remains in custody at the St. Clair County Jail. Authorities have not released additional details about the children’s condition or what led to the incident.

The allegations are serious, but Cade is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

For Alabama families, the case is a troubling reminder of how quickly a domestic emergency can become life-threatening. It also highlights the importance of fast response from law enforcement, emergency workers, and anyone who sees children in danger.
