Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle leads cyclists through downtown during the Mayor’s Bike Ride, a community event promoting fitness, safety, and outdoor activity for residents of all ages.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Residents are invited to get active and enjoy the outdoors at the 17th Annual Mayor’s Bike Ride, set for Saturday, May 2, at Big Spring Park.

The family-friendly event, led by Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle, will begin at 11 a.m. and feature a four-mile ride through downtown. Participants should arrive by 10:30 a.m. for check-in.

“The Mayor’s Bike Ride is all about encouraging people to get active and enjoy the city from a new perspective,” said Mayor Battle. “It’s a fun way to support wellness while spending time with the residents who make Huntsville such a strong community.”

Promoting Health and Safety

The event coincides with Bike Safety Month and highlights the city’s commitment to healthy living and safe, multimodal transportation. Organizers say the ride promotes exercise, nutrition, and overall wellness in a fun, accessible way.

“Staying healthy doesn’t have to mean major lifestyle changes,” said Healthy Huntsville Coordinator Kevin Ready. “Sometimes it’s as simple as getting outside, moving your body and finding activities you enjoy.”

Cycling improves heart health, builds muscle strength, and supports weight management. It also boosts mental health by reducing stress and improving mood while remaining gentle on joints.

What to Expect

The Huntsville Police Department’s Bike Unit will lead the ride, and helmets are required. Bike vendors will be on-site with information on cycling products and activities.

Community in Motion

City leaders hope the event inspires residents to stay active and connected.

For Huntsville, it’s more than a ride—it’s a celebration of health, community, and movement.
