HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — As summer approaches, Huntsville Parks & Recreation is gearing up to provide families with safe, engaging, and affordable options for children through its highly anticipated 2026 summer camp program.

Registration officially opens Monday, April 13, at 8 a.m., giving parents and guardians the opportunity to secure spots in full-day and specialty half-day camps designed to keep kids active, learning, and having fun throughout the summer months.

The program is open to Huntsville residents and Huntsville City Schools students entering grades 1 through 6, offering structured environments where children can build friendships, explore new interests, and stay physically active while school is out.

Full-day camps will run from June 1 through July 24, operating Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. In addition, themed specialty half-day camps will be offered on varying dates and times, providing families with flexible options tailored to their needs and children’s interests.

City leaders say the program plays a vital role in supporting working families while creating positive spaces for youth development.

“Summer camp provides families with a safe, reliable place for their kids while school is out,” said Parks & Recreation Director James Gossett. “We’re proud to offer affordable programs that keep kids active, engaged, and supported all summer long.”

To streamline the process, registration will be completed through the department’s online platform. Parents are encouraged to create accounts in advance to avoid delays, as camp spaces are limited and filled on a first-come, first-served basis. A $20 registration fee is required for all full-day camps.

Beyond recreation, these camps offer a meaningful opportunity for children to grow socially, emotionally and physically in a supervised setting that emphasizes safety and inclusion.

As Huntsville continues to grow, programs like Parks & Recreation summer camps remain essential in strengthening the community — giving youth a place to thrive and family’s peace of mind.
