Huntsville Parks & Recreation will host an African American Art Festival in celebration of Black History Month this February, highlighting the creativity, culture, and talent of local artists across the Tennessee Valley.

The free, all-ages festival will take place Saturday, Feb. 21, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Dr. Robert Shurney Legacy Center, located at 3011-A Sparkman Drive NW. Community members are invited to attend at their convenience throughout the day and experience an inspiring exhibit featuring a variety of artistic works.

Organizers say the festival is designed to encourage creative learning, cultural appreciation, and community connection. Children will have the opportunity to participate in interactive art activities, including hands-on projects and digital art experiences.

In addition to the exhibit, attendees can enjoy artist interviews and discussions that provide insight into the creative process and the stories behind each piece of work.

“We’re excited to host an event that celebrates Black History Month while highlighting the creativity and talent of local artists,” said Dorianne Johnson, Superintendent of Recreation for Community Services. “Our hope is that residents of all ages leave feeling inspired, connected, and proud of the stories and culture represented through art.”

Huntsville Parks & Recreation encourages families, students, and art lovers to take part in the celebration and support local artists while honoring African American history through visual expression.

The African American Art Festival offers a meaningful opportunity for the community to come together, reflect, and celebrate through the power of art.
