HOOVER, Ala. — A Hoover man is facing charges after police say he assaulted a school bus driver Thursday morning while attempting to board the bus in a residential neighborhood.
Police responded around 7:31 a.m. to a 911 call reporting an assault at a bus stop on Summer Place Parkway. When officers arrived, they found the driver suffering from minor injuries after being attacked by a man described as acting erratically and trying to get onto the bus.
Authorities said several students were on board at the time but were not injured. The driver declined medical transport and is recovering.
Officers located the suspect nearby and took him into custody without incident. Investigators said the man appeared agitated but did not specify a motive for the attack.
He has since been charged with third-degree assault and interfering with the operation of a school bus. The suspect was booked into the Jefferson County Jail, where his bond was set at $11,000.
“The driver’s quick actions kept the situation from escalating and protected the children on board,” said Lt. Daniel Lowe of the Hoover Police Department.
Police said the investigation is ongoing, and additional charges could be filed depending on the findings.
