BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Senior guard Kintavious Dozier hit two clutch free throws with eight seconds left to give Alabama A&M University a thrilling 74–73 win over Samford University Monday night in the Ballin’ in Boutwellopener at Boutwell Auditorium.
Dozier led all scorers with 21 points, including 13 in the first half, while adding seven rebounds and four assists. Bilal Abdur-Rahman contributed 13 points and three steals off the bench, and James Graham and Sam Pissis each added 11 points.
A&M built a 41–33 halftime lead after a late first-half surge and stretched it to 12 early in the second half. Samford rallied behind Dylan Faulker, who finished with 15 points, cutting the lead to one with a three-point play in the final seconds.
Dozier answered with a fearless drive to the rim, drawing a foul and sinking both shots to put A&M back on top. Samford’s Jadin Booth missed a last-second three-pointer as the Bulldogs held on for the win.
Alabama A&M shot 38.5% from the field and 90.5% from the free-throw line, outrebounding Samford 39–35 while scoring 32 points in the paint and 15 points off turnovers.
Booth added 14 points for Samford, including three triples.
The Bulldogs return home to face UAH on Monday, Oct. 27, in the annual Mayor’s Cup game at the AAMU Event Center. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
