Late Monday evening, Alabama A&M University’s campus police confirmed that the individual shot by the officer was a student at the university. They sustained injuries and were transported to Huntsville Hospital for treatment. ALEA added, “The officer was not injured during the incident.”
The student sustained injuries and was promptly transported to Huntsville Hospital for medical treatment. ALEA further stated that the officer involved did not suffer any injuries.
According to Don Webster of Huntsville Emergency Medical Services, the incident occurred at the Knight Complex on the campus of Alabama A&M University, resulting in one person being injured.
During a press briefing, AAMU revealed that while on patrol in the Knight Center, an officer responded to gunshots heard in the vicinity. Subsequently, an exchange of gunfire between the officer and an individual took place in a The university disclosed that one person was struck multiple times and was subsequently taken to Huntsville Hospital. However, it was not clarified whether the injured individual was the gunman or another person involved in the altercation.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is investigating the incident. Additionally, the university assured that there was no perceived threat to the campus.
